TESCO stores across the UK will remain open during the VE Day May bank holiday weekend – here’s what you need to know.

VE Day falls on Friday, May 8, 2020 – to mark the occasion, Brits will celebrate with a bank holiday on this day.

This is also the same day as the early May bank holiday, which usually falls on the first Monday of May each year.

Tesco has confirmed to The Sun that stores will be open under their usual Friday hours on this day.

Shops will also open as normal on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10.

The majority of stores have already altered their homes due to the coronavirus crisis.

Tesco opening hours for VE Day May bank holiday weekend

Tesco is operating its usual hours over the bank holiday weekend.

However, as opening times vary between branches, customers are advised to use the online store finder to double-check the hours for their nearest branch.

Friday, May 8 (VE Day): Superstores, Express outlets and Metro stores will open at either 6am or 7am.

Shops will then shut at either 10pm or 11pm.

Tesco has reduced the hours of all 24 hour branches so that staff have more time to clean stores.

Saturday, May 9: Saturday hours will be the same as Friday hours.

Sunday, May 10: Sunday trading hours will be in place as normal.

This means superstores will open at either 10am or 11am, and shut at 4pm or 5pm.

Smaller Express and Metro outlets will open earlier – usually either 6am or 7am.

These stores usually shut at 10pm or 11pm on Sundays.

Tesco has just under 4,000 stores in the UK.

Does Tesco still have item restrictions in place?

TESCO has lifted some item restrictions in stores, but some limits still apply.

Restrictions are still in place on products such as toilet roll, alcohol, pasta, and hand sanitisers.

Tesco said: "We’ve kept these limits until we’re fully stocked up again

"We continue to encourage customers to buy only what they need, to help make sure there’s enough for everyone."

We've asked the supermarket how many of these items each customer can buy and we'll update this article when we know more.

Tesco also still has an 80-item limit in place for online orders.
