THE August Bank Holiday is here and giving Britons an extra day of rest.

If you are expecting some important post, or special deliveries today, on August 30, you may be disappointed.

Is there any post today?

For all those awaiting important bank holiday deliveries, you may have to wait an extra day if your post is coming by Royal Mail.

The UK's postal service released an update on their website stating there will not be any collections or deliveries on Monday, August 30.

They added: "We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays.

"However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays."

They provided a link so you can check how the service will be affected in your area.

Are there any deliveries on bank holidays?

Other post-delivery services such as DPD, Hermes, UPS and Parcelforce also do not usually deliver post and parcels on bank or public holidays.

But, it may be worth checking with your delivery service directly, or reading through their Terms and Conditions, if you are awaiting a parcel today.

Are post offices open?

There are around 11,500 Post Office branches in the UK, the majority of which are run independently or on a franchise arrangement.

"Many" branches are expected to open today but it will be up to your local outlet decide.

You are advised by checking whether your local branch is going to open by visiting www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder.

If it does open, branch opening times may differ as these have always varied, with no set hours across the network.

How many more bank holidays are there in 2020?

In the UK, there are still two bank holidays coming up this year.

These are Christmas Day on Friday, December 25, and Boxing Day on Monday, December 26.
