Garth Brooks is one of the most famous country music stars in the world and is married to fellow singing sensation Trisha Yearwood. The power couple said “I do” in 2005 but Brooks was married once before and took a break from his career to raise his kids.

Here’s how many children Brooks has, how old they are, and what they’re up to today.

Garth Brooks’ children are from his first marriage

Before Yearwood, Brooks walked down the aisle with his college sweetheart Sandy Mahl.

According to WYRK-TV, they met when they attended Oklahoma State University while at a bar where Brooks worked as a bouncer. They began dating and got hitched in 1986.

The pair welcomed three daughters together. Their oldest, Taylor Mayne Pearl Brooks, was born on July 8, 1992, followed by their second daughter, August Anna Brooks, on May 3, 1994. They welcomed their youngest child, Allie Colleen Brooks, on July 28, 1996.

Brooks and Mahl divorced in 2001.

What their daughters are doing today

Like her parents, Taylor, who was named after singer-songwriter James Taylor and Minnie Pearl, attended college at Oklahoma State. Country Fancast noted that she studied history and graduated in 2016 before enrolling in seminary school at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University. These days, Taylor tends to be the most private of her sisters.

Brooks’ daughter August is married and has children of her own today. She wed her high school sweetheart Chance Michael Russell and they are parents to daughters Karalynn and Gwendolyn.

Allie is following in her famous father’s footsteps as she is a rising country singer. Allie graduated from Nashville’s Belmont University and married Jonathan Roberts in 2018.

Did Trisha Yearwood have children with her exes?

Brooks first met Yearwood while he was still married. He revealed to US Weekly:

“I had been married 13 months when I met her. When someone said, ‘What’d you think when I met her?’ I said, ‘I felt like I just met my wife,’ which is weird, right? But the girls’ mother and I were married in a church, in front of our families. If we’d gotten married then, either the career wouldn’t have been what it was in the ’90s or our marriage wouldn’t have lasted. So I have to believe that things happen when they happen. I feel very lucky right now where I’m at. So even if I did have regrets, I wouldn’t change anything in fear of changing where I’m at right now.”

Yearwood was also married before. She wed her first husband, Christopher Latham, in 1987 but they divorced in 1991. Yearwood and Robert Reynolds tied the knot in 1994 but ended their marriage five years later. The songbird did not have children with her exes but played a big role in helping Brooks parent his daughters.

On becoming their stepmother, Yearwood told Sounds Like Nashville: “I had no idea what I was doing. I have to say that now as these girls have grown–they’re adults now on their own–it’s been a part of my life that I would have never would have even known to dream about and it’s been so rewarding to get to be a part of this family.”
