DEAR DEIDRE: IT’S awful being around my alcoholic husband. My children and I need to leave, but I don’t know how.

I’m 41 and he is 43. We have two boys aged eight and six.

I didn’t realise how bad my husband’s problem was until I discovered vodka bottles stashed in every nook and cranny at home.

Most days, he lurches around the house picking fights with me and making impossible demands.

He stinks of drink but claims he is staggering around and slurring because he is tired.

I’ve offered to go with him to see his GP, but he refuses.

I joined the family group for Alcoholics Anonymous and they said without help it would get worse.

They were right. Now I don’t know what to do or where to go.
