With the exception of Lyndon B. Johnson, Queen Elizabeth has made a point of meeting every U.S. president since she was first crowned in 1952, per Town & Country Magazine. The Sunday Times reported at the beginning of the year that the monarch is set to host President Joe Biden and other world leaders in June, just before the G7 Summit in Cornwall. However, the “soft power” reception, as it is being called, will not be the first time that the queen and Biden communicate.

In January, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the queen sent a private letter to Joe Biden before his inauguration, via Vanity Fair. The contents of the note have remained private since then, but most media outlets have assumed that it included well wishes for the future president. Historically, the monarch has remained politically neutral and almost never makes remarks on American presidents, per CNN. However, many observers believe that Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with President Biden has been positive so far.

Joe and Jill Biden have already met the royal family

As it turns out, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden met the royal family when Barack Obama was president. The former vice president and second lady have attended several events with members of the royal family. In particular, they have formed a special bond with Prince Harry, via Insider and Hello! Magazine. While Prince Harry’s relationships with world leaders do not reflect the opinions of the queen, they do suggest that Biden has a good relationship with the royal family overall.

In addition, when Prince Philip died in early April, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden swiftly issued a statement addressed to the royal family and the United Kingdom. “On behalf of all the people of the United States, we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the entire Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom on the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh,” the White House statement read. Biden also included a personal touch at the end, writing, “Jill and I are keeping the Queen and Prince Philip’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in our hearts during this time.”
