THE festive sales may be chaotic but one shopping expert has shared her advice on how to wrap it up.

Womenswear designer Anica Wislawki, who has worked at New Look for over five years, is no stranger to the retailer’s mammoth stock.

She shared her best tips for making the most of the sales this Christmas – and that includes arming yourself with a hugely discounted coat.

She said: “We had such a warm start to the Autumn and Winter months that lots of the things that usually sell for retailers at that time didn’t – which is great news for the customer.

"It means they’re some great ‘must have’ items available in the sales so be sure to check out the coats section as I can guarantee, your money is going to go much further.”

If you can't wait for Boxing Day sales, New Look has already slashed the prices of its coats and jackets by up to 50% online.

I’m midsize and tried on New Look’s Christmas party looks

As for what she suggests is worth looking out for in New Look post Christmas, Anica has her eyes on more than one design.

She said: “I’m obsessing over the long puffer we have in store.

"I‘ve not decided yet whether to get the black or the khaki one. It’s super cool and cosy.

"I’ll wear it with a chunky knit and a beanie.”

CHECK OUT

Another great buy Anica suggests checking out is the long formal coat that is expected to be in New Look's sale.

She added: “I’d opt for the coat in either camel or grey.

"When it comes to fashion trends, next season is all about neutrals so if you get this coat, it will see you right through winter to the next season.

"Layer it over a black top now when the weather is cold and then once we get into the warmer months, wear it over a stripe jumper or sweatshirt."

“Another popular item will be the knitted dress. I’m loving the roll neck midi versions. It’s simple and gorgeous.

"It will work so hard for you and you’ll wear it this winter, next winter and beyond."

She suggested wearing it with knee high boots and a belt to create a classic look.

Alternatively, if you’re after a jumper rather than a dress, you may want to consider going for the roll neck.

This can be worn with jeans and a teddy coat for cosy winter walks or get a throw on style in stripe.

Anica added: "It’s an easy win back with a PU Jean and will still look strong right through spring.”

How to make the most of the sales

It goes without saying, when it comes to shopping for anything in the sales, planning is everything.

If you head to the sales and have no idea what you want, you can end up wasting your time, buying unwanted goods or spending over the odds.

“Preparation is the key to hitting the ground running when heading to the sales,” Anica said.

“First, it is worth going online and doing a virtual ‘window shop’.

"Research what you want. That way you’ll be
clear of exactly the best bargains to look out for, once the sales start.”

The designer also added: “It’s super easy to get bamboozled when you see a price drop, but be sure to ask yourself, do you really need and want it?

"If you have what you want to buy in mind, then once the sale starts then you’re going to be on a winning mission.

“Online shopping is brilliant as it’s 24/7 and you can do your research to fit in around you.

"I prefer to shop around 9pm, having a little bit of me time so I can really focus.

"I ‘heart’ all my favourite items so it’s easy.

"Then, once the sale starts I’m ready! I simply add to my shopping bag if I’m buying online or hit the shops with my list.”

At New Look, home delivery charges range from £2.99 to £5.99 depending on how quickly you want the items.

Or, if you spend above a certain amount – between £45 and £100 depending on the delivery speed – you can get it for free.

Alternatively, you can click and collect to your nearest store for free on orders above £19.99 or you'll have to pay £1.99.

Top tips for in-store shopping

If you are planning on visiting the shops in person, Anica has some top tips below to make your trip as stress-free and cheap as possible.

Shop off-peak

Anica recommends shopping off-peak, and treating it similar to a gym membership.

In other words, go either first thing in the morning or at the end of day.

Visit retail parks

Retail parks are great as you tend to get free parking so there is no need to rush or worry about getting a ticket.

Always buy for next season

As Anica mentioned above, you can find coats in the sale that can see you through to the next season.

She also recommended the chuck on dress, which is another bargain you can buy now and wear through into next year.
