A roller blind is a single piece of fabric which wraps around and casing and fits into the top of your window frame, either within or outside. The roller blind can be operated using a pull chord attached to the bottom of the blind, or through a side-winding mechanism attached to the casing itself. Some even have motorised controls, giving you the option to open and close your blinds while sitting on the sofa or cooking dinner.

How to clean roller blinds
Even if they are not made of a specialist fabric, your roller blinds are easy to keep clean.
For regular cleaning without having to remove the blind itself, all you need to do is roll it down fully and use your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery tool to gently remove dust and dirt.
For a deeper clean, wipe in a downward motion from top to bottom using a clean, damp cloth afterwards.
Let your blind fully dry before pulling it back up.
How to remove stubborn stains
If you cannot remove a stain just by using water, try the same technique with a fabric stain remover product.
Simply treat the stained area following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Despite this being an effective cleaning method, be advised that once completed the treated area of the blind may look significantly lighter than the rest of the fabric.
Remember to leave the blind open to air dry to prevent a buildup of mould.

How to fix a stiff or noisy sidewinder
If your side winding mechanism becomes stiff or starts to make noise over time, it is likely time to lubricate the area using a professional silicone spray.
This is available to buy widely and is safe to use in all areas, including food preparation zones and rooms prone to moisture, such as bathrooms.
Simply follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Make sure to avoid spraying the Roller blind fabric, which may become stained.
How to remove mould from roller blinds
Condensation on windows can mean mould starts to grow on blinds as it thrives in warm, damp conditions.
The spores cling to the fabric and need to be destroyed if you want to keep the blinds in good condition.
Mould in the home can also be damaging to health in some cases, so it’s best to get it sorted out as soon as possible.
Gently brush patches of mould with a stiff brush to avoid a build up, and spot treat with fabric detergent that is formulated for killing spores.
Make sure to leave the blind to air dry after cleaning to help prevent further outbreaks or smells from forming.
