Castor oil is a thick and rich oil that comes from a plant native to Africa and Asia. The oil has been used as a natural remedy for skin concerns for hundreds of years, but millennials have started using it as a hair treatment. Apparently, castor oil is a miracle worker for short, thinning and damaged hair. Does castor oil help hair growth?
A TikToker famous for her golden locks which reach her thighs, @theaussierapunzel, has said she uses castor oil to achieve the look.
The 22-year-old massages the oil into her scalp to “help generate new hair growth”.
However, she notes that the oil is very sticky and thick and suggests diluting it with a thinner oil if that’s not your style.

The social media star uses castor oil on her hair about once every two weeks and leaves it in for two hours.
She washes her hair as normal and dabs the remaining oil on her fingertips onto her eyelashes.
Alongside a DIY aloe vera hair mask @theaussierapunzel uses, the castor oil trick is apparently what enabled her to grow her hair so long.

Does castor oil help hair growth?
According to the experts at Holland and Barrett, castor oil can help your hair grow.
The site explains: “Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid and omega-6 fatty acids, which – when massaged onto the scalp – can help increase blood circulation and improve hair growth.
“It also moisturises and conditions your hair naturally, leaving it shiny and healthy.”
Castor oil does the same job on lashes and eyebrows.

Follow the routine as described by @theaussierapunzel above for longer and stronger hair.
The experts at Holland and Barrett recommend using castor oil as a mask for your hair, as shown in the TikTok video.
The site reads: “One of the most popular ways to use castor oil day today is as an intensive conditioning treatment for your hair.”
According to Holland and Barrett’s team, castor oil’s moisturising properties allow it to reduce the appearance of split ends, while its soothing properties make it effective against dandruff and irritated scalps.
Castor oil also has antifungal properties and since dandruff is often a fungal problem, it can help to treat your flaky scalp.
The site explains: “Massage it directly into your scalp to soothe irritated skin and reduce dry skin”
