IF you have to question how often you should wash an item of clothing, chances are you're not doing it often enough.

Still none the wiser? Well, a US-based cleaning expert has taken to TikTok to reveal exactly how often your clothes should go in the wash – and it may just surprise you.


The cleaning fanatic explained that while the recommended amount may vary depending on how sweaty your day is, a general rule of thumb is that bras should be washed after every three-four wears, while shirts can last between two-four wears before needing to be freshened up.

She added that pyjamas should be washed every three-five wears, while it's recommended that towels are washed more frequently, with one-two times per week being the ideal.

And while it may not come as a surprise that socks should be washed after every wear, she notes that denim can last up to 10 wears without needing to go through the washing machine.

And many social media users had a lot to say on the matter – especially when it came to the frequency of washing denim.

“Naw I ain’t washing full denim jeans unless I get something on them,” joked one.

A second quipped: “Jeans: never.”

"Listen judgey, the frequency with which I wash my bra is between me and god," another commented.

A second wrote: "If it doesn’t have sweat marks or smell like a waste centre, I’m not washing it."
