Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales pulled out all the stops for the second Earthshot Prize awards ceremony last night. Taking their Royal Foundation initiative Stateside to Boston, Kate and William walked the green carpet suited and booted, and the Princess’ outfit certainly fit with the ethos of the event.

The Earthshot Prize offers £1million grants to eco-innovators helping to find solutions to environmental problems, and guests were asked not to buy any new outfits for the occasion.

Kate wore a green gown by Solace London with a sleek silhouette and waist-cinching design.

The brand describes The Sabina as a “floor length modern gown featuring an exaggerated neckline”.

The dress retails for £350 online, but the Princess of Wales is thought to have rented the dress for the night from the designer dress rental platform Hurr.

At the time of writing, the dress can be rented from the platform for £74 to £194.

The Princess has been praised online for her look which emulated “class” and “glamour”.

One Twitter user, @isaguor, wrote: “One thing I’ve always thought is that you can’t buy class and style, you can only buy expensive things.

“Princess Catherine has so much class and style that she made a rented and not at all expensive dress look like thousands of pounds.”

Another user, @thingsroyal, wrote: “She can look a million dollars in a $100 rented dress!

“True class, pure elegance and glamour galore! Can’t think of anyone else who can do this better than the Princess of Wales.”

The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English also tweeted: “A stunning look tonight for the Princess of Wales – her hair looks amazing from this view against the green of her dress…..”.

Kate also recycled a pair of shoes for the star-studded event, donning her Gianvito Rossi Rania 105 Embellished Pumps.

The Princess opted for a selection of emerald jewels to tie in with her green dress, and her choker was particularly spectacular.

Queen Mary’s Art Deco Emerald Choker features several statement green gems surrounded by diamonds, and it is a royal heirloom.

The piece was commissioned by Queen Mary, the late Queen Elizabeth’s paternal grandmother, from the royal jeweller Garrard in the 1920s.

The Queen was thought to have given Princess Diana the jewel as a loan when she married Prince Charles in 1981, and it became a firm favourite for formal engagements.

Diana made waves wearing the jewel in 1985 when she donned it as a headband while visiting Australia.

The jewel hadn’t been seen since 1997 until Kate donned it in Boston, and she paired it with emerald and diamond earrings from Asprey.

For the outing, Kate also wore Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring.

Featuring a 12-carat oval royal blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds, the sparkler is instantly recognisable.
