Prince William and Kate Middleton arrive at Top Gun premiere
Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the Top Gun premiere almost a year ago on May 19, 2022. The Prince of Wales looked dapper in an Alexander McQueen velvet tuxedo – but it was his shoes that caught the attention of royals fans.
It has just been confirmed that Prince William wore bespoke Crockett and Jones black velvet slip-ons with embroidered F-18 Super Hornets on the upper half.
This was a reference to the aircraft featured in Tom Cruise’s film, Top Gun, for which the royal couple made an appearance at the premiere.
These shoes retailed for a whopping £300, making them an expensive piece of footwear for His Royal Highness.
In addition, the Prince donned a velvet bow tie that matched his velvet tuxedo from Alexander McQueen.
McQueen was a poignant choice for William, as his wife Kate Middleton famously donned the British label for their wedding in 2011.
To accessorise, William included a white handkerchief in the pocket of his suit. With a white shirt and a sharp set of black trousers, William completed the ensemble and looked incredibly dapper.
Royal fan @taiwo_isijola wrote on Instagram: “I like the mix of formal and something edgy.”
The Princess of Wales looked equally fabulous for the evening in an off-the-shoulder black and white dress at the London premiere of Top Gear: Maverick.

Aside from her beautiful dress, Kate matched William’s Alexander McQueen suit by carrying one of their designer clutch bags.
Kate chose an Alexander McQueen black clutch bag to match her black and white gown.
She opted for the Black Velvet Crystal Embellished Box Clutch, which Kate has owned for a while.
It is a custom clutch that blends the Beetle Box Clutch’s body with the Mini Crystal-Embellished Leather Bag’s jewelled clasp.
The Lamble Off-The-Shoulder Two-Tone Gown, in Black/White, was the name of Kate’s dress, and it was created by the designer Roland Mouret.
It had a fitted silhouette that nipped in at the midsection, with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a white band.
There was an open back zip, and the hem was fluted and reached the floor.
The description said: “Become the epitome of evening elegance with Roland Mouret’s ‘Lamble’ gown.
“In timeless black and white, this ladylike number features and off-the-shoulder design for a touch of sophisticated seduction.”
The Princess’s dress was said to have cost £2,700 at the time of purchase back in May 2022. Unfortunately, this lush dress is no longer in stock.
A set of sparkling star earrings designed by Robinson Pelham were also worn by the Princess of Wales.
They were the Tsar Star Studs and Drops, and the official website estimated their incredible value to be £10,560.
