Melania Trump stepped out with her husband Donald Trump at their Florida home where the former US President announced he was seeking another term in office and officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign.
For the occasion, the former first lady wore a white pencil skirt, which is believed to be leather, and matching white heels.
Melania chose a navy and white polka dot shirt, which had three-quarter sleeves and a tie at the waist.
She wore the collar open and raised upwards instead of it being traditionally folded down.
The pattern of Melania’s shirt might have some meaning.
Polka dots are a classic print that have been embraced by the fashion industry for decades.
In history, the polka dot started with negative connotations of the plague until the 19th century when the polka dot dance appeared and took the world by storm.
The dance craze started a revolution of excitement that lead to polka dots being used across fashion and homeware.
High street brands and luxury fashion houses have gone onto design with polka dots for years.
Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor have also famously worn the print.
The iconic Disney character, Minnie Mouse was first seen in the 1920’s wearing the red and white dottie print.
Tash Bradley, colour psychologist and director of design at Lick Colour recently explained the intentions associated with polka dots.
She said: “Someone who is wearing polka dots, they’re wanting to portray a fun-ness, a sort of playfulness.
“When you go for polka dots it’s very playful, it opens up conversation, it makes you give off a sort of warm feel.”
Tash added that the classic “colour combination of black and white polka dots” exude “elegance [and] sophistication” but the print adds “fun” and makes the wearer “approachable”.
Judi James, body language expert discussed Melania’s outfit too.
She said her “choice of outfit looked symbolic”.
“The white skirt was a nod to the trait of appearing in white that she used as FLOTUS, which gave a very clean and almost innocent look.
“The large polka dots are attention-seeking to suggest she is not going to be a background wife this time, with the shape of the large spots implying a sense of upbeat optimism,” Judi added.
