Marvel Studios has released a trailer for its sequel to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. In the new film, Thor: Love and Thunder, fans will see the Avenger bring together a crew to take down Gorr the God Butcher.

Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor appears to have abandoned the action of his Avengenger lifestyle and now lives in relative isolation.

“I want to choose my own path, live in the moment,” he says in a voiceover. “My super hero-ing days are over.”

His plans come to a halt, however, thanks to galactic killer Gorr, who aims to bring about the extinction of the gods.

Alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tessa Thompson stars as king of New Asgard Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Thor’s ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who is undergoing cancer treatment in tandem with coming into the powers that will make her the Mighty Thor. Christian Bale plays Gorr and Chris Pratt returns as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Also making appearances are Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Taika Waititi will reprise his part in voicing the motion-animated character Korg, as well as directing the film.

Marking Phase Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring productions set to be released from 2021 through 2023, Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in the United States on July 8.
