The New Balance 1700 hasn’t necessarily been a priority for the Boston-based imprint in recent memory as models like the 327, 991 and 992 have been garnering all of the GR and collaborative spotlight. However, it looks as though the 1999 model is aiming to regain some momentum as it has just surfaced in a signature light gray palette.

The color story which is often associated with New Balance’s popular 990 series, makes its way onto this pair by covering the mesh underlays and hairy suede overlays in the aforementioned gray hue. Subtle pops of white accents are dispersed to the laces as well on the heel branding and embroidered 1700 that is positioned on the lateral heels. Reflective paneling also makes its presence felt across the overlays closest to the ankle as well as through a window on the forefoot. A small dosage of charcoal gray also appears as the shadow of the side wall’s N logos. Save for the matching gray lower heel block, the midsoles — which feature various grooves towards the middle — and outsoles alike are treated with clean white outers.

New Balance Japan has these available right now for ¥19,800 (approx. $182 USD).
