Michael Jordan said he didn’t approve of his son Marcus dating Larsa Pippen so it’s no surprise he rushed to get in touch with his child when he heard news of a wedding.
Real Housewives of Miami star Larsa, 49, has been dating the NBA legend’s son Marcus, 32, since late 2022.
Last weekend, Marcus sparked rumours that they were planning on getting married after confirming that a wedding was ‘in the works.’
It came just weeks after Michael was asked if he ‘approved’ of the relationship – which has been scrutinised over the 16-year age gap – and replied ‘no.’
Marcus and Larsa have since clarified whether they are actually engaged after loved ones started congratulating them on the wedding, and retired basketball star Michael was one of those who got in touch.
Speaking on the couple’s Separation Anxiety podcast, Larsa said: ‘I had 100 calls and text messages of people congratulating us,’ adding that they’re not engaged.

Marcus then revealed that his dad Michael, 60, contacted him about the reports but did not share what he wrote in his text message.
Addressing the question from a TMZ reporter that sparked the confusion, Marcus explained: ‘I responded in a cheeky way… It’s a tough question to answer, obviously, it’s something we’ve been discussing a lot lately.’
Larsa then revealed that Marcus has actually given her a ring, even if it’s not an engagement one just yet.
‘We’re not engaged. But you did give me a promise ring,’ she said, to which Marcus confirmed: ‘I definitely gave you a promise ring.’
He added: ‘Speaking of the ring, I had so many jewellers reach out to me in terms of, “Hey, are you ready? Do you want a bigger stone? How big do you want to go?” So I think the tagline of our wedding is: “It’s in the works.”’
While the couple do plan on marrying, they insisted that a wedding is not a ‘priority’ for them right now.
In July, sports icon Michael gave a surprising answer when asked if he approved of the controversial relationship, stating a firm ‘no.’
Larsa later admitted she felt ‘embarrassed’ and ‘traumatised’ by the remark, but they have since cleared the air with Michael.
During a previous episode of the podcast, she said of the drama: ‘I do understand that it’s not awkward for us to be together because it’s us, but it probably is awkward for my ex and your dad because they have their own relationship or whatever it was.
‘I wasn’t a part of that, you weren’t a part of that. So, I feel like for them it probably is weird, it probably is weird for your dad. I can’t be mad. I understand.’
Larsa was referring to Michael’s long-standing relationship with her ex-husband Scottie Pippen, with the two playing for the Chicago Bulls together in the 1980s and 90s. They were widely regarded as part of the dream team but famously feuded, as documented in the Netflix documentary The Last Dance.
Larsa and Scottie, 57, were married for 24 years and share four children. They split in 2018 and their divorce was finalised in 2021.
