After linking up with Rick Owens at the start of the month, Birkenstock has partnered with Jil Sander for its latest collaborative project. The new release comes through the label’s Jil Sander+ line, which takes inspiration from nature and life outside the city.

These reference points are also present in the Birkenstock collaboration, which sees three classic silhouettes reworked and a brand new one introduced for the first time. Taking on the Milano, Arizona and Berlin silhouettes, Jil Sander has added larger outsoles, enlarged and elongated straps and thinner buckles in precious satin nickel. These three styles all come in either raw edged calfskin or suede, finished with cream, olive or black colorways.

Rounding out the capsule is the Velan, a new design inspired by the Berlin closed-toe sandal. The new silhouette features a soft nappa strap, that can be wrapped around the wearer’s ankles.

Announcing the collaboration, Jil Sander creative directors Lucie and Luke Meier said, “We have worn Birkenstocks for as long as we can remember. They are comfortable to wear, but also comforting. They have been with us in some remarkable places, from camping in the Canadian wilderness to sitting fireside in the Swiss Alps. However the quality and integrity of Birkenstock is what convinced us to work with them.”

The collaboration between Birkenstock and Jil Sander+ will release via the Jil Sander and Birkenstock 1774 web stores on June 28, before releasing a week later at select retailers and Jil Sander stores worldwide.
