Shakira is on her way to a new and brighter future!

After a brutal split from her ex Gerard Piqué, the Hips Don’t Lie artist has finally packed up her home in Barcelona, Spain, and is making the move to Miami, Florida, with her boys, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8! She’s had to delay her move in the past due to her parents’ sudden illnesses, so this is a long time coming!

On Sunday, the 46-year-old singer took to her Instagram to bid the Spanish city farewell in a heartbreaking post! Alongside a stunning snapshot of her former home, she wrote (via a translation):

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children a stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea.”

Oof… It must be so tough to realize the big sacrifice she took for her family so many years ago didn’t exactly work out the way she hoped.

As Perezcious readers know, Shakira and Gerard were together for over a decade before they announced their split 10 months ago. The breakup came as the former FC Barcelona player was accused of cheating with a PR student known as Clara Chia Marti, who is now his new girlfriend. It’s been messy, y’all!!

Thankfully, the one thing the pair has been able to agree on is how to parent their children through this difficult transition. In November, a source confirmed to E! News that the athlete and vocalist had signed a custody agreement “that’s best for the kids,” allowing Shakira to move them to Miami, where the maternal side of her family lives. The exes also released a joint statement to the outlet at the time, explaining:

“Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment.”

Now, the Zootopia alum is one step closer to making this “safe and calm environment” a reality again for her little ones! ‘Cause things at their Barcelona home — which was next door to Piqué’s parents — sounded complicated AF these last few months!! Whether it was witch rituals or allegations the soccer star’s momma helped cover up the affair, things were pretty crazy there!

Continuing her bittersweet message on the ‘gram, the Whenever, Wherever vocalist remained positive about her future while also taking a moment to thank those who have been there for her in Spain. Well, except for ONE person, who she couldn’t help but subtly shade. She wrote:

“Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness. Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love. Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow. Thank you to my Spanish audience who have always wrapped me in their love and loyalty. For you just a see you later and as my father said so many times, see you around the curves! ”

Such a heartfelt reflection on the departure, especially considering she likely never intended to make this move… and certainly not under these circumstances. We hope it’s a smooth transition for the whole family, but especially the kiddos who have already been put through so much!
