Reese Witherspoon is getting divorced… again.

In case you hadn’t heard, the Morning Show star and Jim Toth, her husband of nearly 12 years, announced their split on Friday, breaking the news in a joint statement that they had “made the difficult decision to divorce.”

We’ve since heard some inside takes about why this was happening. Some say they just grew apart — others have intimated they grew apart because of how much he’s changed recently. A source close to the couple said Jim was having a sort of “midlife crisis” over the past few years, embracing a bad boy side with tattoos and “chunky weird jewelry” — and no longer resembled the man Reese married. Jim had apparently seemed a very safe and secure choice for a spouse, which had been “super appealing” early on in the relationship — and as she chose to get married again — especially after the turbulent end with Ryan Phillippe.

Now another insider is opening up about how Reese feels about this unexpected turn of events, telling People:

“Reese is obviously disappointed and upset. She never saw herself getting another divorce.”

Reese and Ryan began dating even before starring as doomed lovers in Cruel Intentions — and were married just three months after its release! She was only 23 years old! The young Hollywood power couple’s romance got tumultuous toward the end, by all accounts. They were divorced in 2006 after having two children together, Ava and Deacon Phillippe.

Divorce is never easy. It’s understandable that Reese wanted this time to be permanent! People‘s source explained:

“After she was set up with Jim, their relationship moved quickly. Reese was thrilled by his attention and excited to marry him.”

Unfortunately, they continued, it was never a perfect match:

“They are two very different people though. Reese is headstrong and focused. Although very hard-working, Jim is more laidback.”

Still, opposites attract, and plenty of couples complement each other’s differences. But as the differences grew, so did the distance between them. And the Legally Blonde icon realized she had to do something she never wanted to again:

“It’s been very difficult for Reese to get to this point though. They both concluded this was right for them.”

Ultimately, the source says the exes are working together at figuring out how to separate — most importantly they’re working on co-parenting their 10-year-old son Tennessee Toth:

“They love Tennessee and this is their focus. They will continue to co-parent amicably. There is no drama.”

Hey, that’s the most important thing. The good news is, Reese Witherspoon is the catch of this century, too. So we hope she knows it — and is able to continue finding her happiness, even if it means having to be a two-time divorcée.
