Maura Higgins is believed to be hoping there may be a way back for her and her ex-boyfriend Giovanni Perniceafter the pair “naturally” broke up, sources exclusively told OK!

After a few months of dating, Maura, 30, and Giovanni, 31, decided to go their separate ways, and the duo has since deleted all pictures of each other on their social media pages.

While the Strictly Come Dancing dancer broke his silence and confirmed their break-up on his social media, Maura is yet to speak out and has been focusing her energies on a fresh start.

Now, a source has told us that the Love Island star may be holding out for a reunion with her former boyfriend after he was occupied with the dancing competition.

“Their relationship came to a natural end,” the source said. “Giovanni is so busy with Strictly and the show is a big commitment, so he just couldn’t give her his time.”

The source went on to claim that while Maura has a bit of hope left for the two of them, Giovanni is said to have made up his mind for good.

“Even when Strictly is over, there’s no way back for them,” the source added.

“Giovanni won’t rekindle it. Secretly, Maura probably hopes that they could try. But Giovanni is done.”

Giovanni broke his silence on the split on Twitter and Instagram as he revealed there was “no wrongdoing” leading him and Maura to break up.

“Hey guys – I hope everyone had a great Monday," the Sicilian dancer began. "Going into another wonderful training week – thank you so much for your amazing messages & your support this weekend.

“I get to live my dream every single day because of you – so thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I wanted to say a couple of things…"

The star, who is partnered up with Rose Ayling-Ellis, 26, on the BBC show, continued: “Firstly, great relationships with great people can come to a natural end. This has been the case for me recently. There was absolutely no wrong-doing and this should be the end of any speculation."

Giovanni went on to share his hopes over his fans focusing more on having important conversations about the issues raised on the show.

He adds: “Whilst I respect and understand the interest in my personal life, wouldn’t it be fantastic to instead use this space to raise awareness of subjects and issues which need the attention.

"My eyes have been opened to so many things during my career. But I am learning so much from this series of strictly. The show has highlighted many important conversations for different communities and increased representation.

"These are the conversations which deserve the time, energy and recognition. We must concentrate on what’s important and how we can all make a difference in life. Gio x," the star finished.
