DuchessKate Middletonhas been photographed looking rather sombre in black as she sets off on the afternoon school run to collect her three children from school.

This is the first sighting of thenow Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridgefollowing the death of the lateQueen Elizabeth II .

She was photographed driving dressed all in black and wearing sunglasses as she left her home in Windsor.

Prince William , now heir apparent, is currently thought to be on his journey home from Balmoral, and is expected to arrive in Windsor later this afternoon, to be reunited with his wife and children.

William, who is expected to now be given the title Prince of Wales, travelled to Balmoral, following the announcement that the Queen had been placed under medical supervision.

After arriving in Aberdeen airport, the Prince was photographeddriving himself and other members of the royal familyto Balmoral Castle.

He arrived at the Scottish royal estate with his unclePrince Andrew , the Duke of York, by his side with his other uncle Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex in the backseats.

The nowKing CharlesandQueen Consort Camillawere already present at Balmoral, along with thePrincess Royaland were by the monarch’s bedside as she passed away.

The Duke of Sussex,Prince Harry , arrived at Balmoral later that evening, with the news breaking of the Queen’s deathwhile his flight was still in the air .

The royals who rushed to the Queen’s side last night have begun to make their return journeys back to London and Windsor, with King Charles arriving at Buckingham Palace earlier this afternoon.

This marked his first public appearance as King as he greeted onlookers who had gathered throughout the day to mourn the passing of the Queen.

The new King stepped out of the car as he arrived at the gates of the Palace to greet and shake hands of mourners, thanking them for their good wishes.

Calls of 'God save the King' rang out as he spoke to the cheering crowds.

Charles was later joined by Camilla as they looked at the many flowers and tributes in front of Buckingham Palace in tribute to the Queen.

The pair waved to the onlookers, who gave three cheers for the new monarch and his consort.

He is expected to address the nation on television this evening, following an audience with the new Prime Minister.
