‘Why do I fancy Tommy so much?’ Happy Valley fans admit they can’t help but root for villainous character despite him being an ‘absolute psychopath’

As the BBC’s hit show Happy Valley aired its final ever episode, fans took to social media to say they were distracted by how ‘hot’ Tommy Lee Royce was. 

The villain, played by James Norton, has been portrayed as an unredeemable psychopath yet viewers have been left questioning why they fancy him ‘so much’. 

The actor, 37, donned several looks during the final series of the drama, including long, straggly locks and an unkempt beard.

However, in an earlier episode the ‘psycho killer bad boy’ underwent a transformation and his long hair was given the chop and appeared in court clean-shaven.

One viewer took to Twitter to ask the actor to star a romcom next so they can have a ‘guilt-free crush’, as Tommy Lee Royce ‘takes the bad boy thing a bit too far’.

Despite the character’s violent crimes, plenty of viewers were happy to publicly admit to having a crush.

‘Sorry I can not hate Timmy Lee Royce because I fancy the pants off him. I’ve got issues,’ tweeted Charlie Pallister.

One Twitter used said: ‘Ngl I’m totally rooting for Tommy Lee Royce just because I fancy him.’

While Stacey Watts had to remind herself that she ‘Must not fancy Tommy Lee Royce’.

Dozens of similar tweets were posted despite the fictional character being portrayed as a serial rapist, drug offender and murderer.

Later in the season, Norton’s character is almost unrecognisable while clean shaven and wearing glasses

James Norton has played the evil criminal Tommy Lee Royce in all three seasons of the hard-hitting BBC crime drama.

He recently took a trip down memory lane as he shared a look at his character’s various looks throughout the years.

The actor shared a number of behind-the-scenes snaps from Tommy’s look in series two of Happy Valley in which he sports a shaved head.

While others show him posing away in selfies, as well as smiling alongside his co-stars.

Captioning his snaps, he wrote: ‘A few more BTS from series 2.’

A second set of images sees James – who’s character Tommy is currently on the run from the law with a plan to kidnap his son Ryan – undergoing a hair transformation as he’s given longer tresses.

The star is seen posing for snaps at various stages of the makeover, with James even sweeping his hair up into a bun at one point.

It comes after Con O’Neill has promised fans that the finale will be sure to please loyal viewers of the drama series. 

Con, 56, who plays Neil Ackroyd, appeared on Thursday’s episode of This Morning where he teased details of the episode with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield .

He said: ‘Viewers are going to enjoy. When I read the script for the last episode it blew my mind. Sally [Wainwright] has written an extraordinary ending.’

Holly then asked if it had been hard for Con and his co-stars to keep the ending under wraps.

He explained: ‘It’s not a hard secret to keep as we’ve lived with this show for a long time.

‘The way Sally has brought it home and ended it is extraordinary.’

He added of the popularity of the show in general: ‘Isn’t it wonderful to have a show not just dropping every episode and to have that tension.

‘It’s so refreshing that people are that invested.’
