Gemma Atkinson prepares for Christmas without Gorka

Hits Radio presenter Gemma Atkinson took to social media today to speak about her “stressful” wrapping duties ahead of Christmas this year.

The soap star admitted that she had been forced to undertake a lot of festive chores on her own, as her husband Gorka Márquez is currently away rehearsing for the final two episodes of Strictly Come Dancing.

Taking to Instagram, Gemma admitted that it felt “weird” preparing for Christmas day without the dancer and father of her two children: four-year-old daughter Mia and newborn son Thiago.

Gemma posted a clip of herself completing the task of wrapping up her Christmas presents to her story, as she sported a high bun hairstyle and grey T-shirt while watching over baby Thiago.

“My hair’s like that little girl off the Grinch,” she told her 1.9 million followers, referring to the character Cindy Lou Who from Dr. Seuss’ famous Christmas story.

“I’ve just been wrapping,” she said. “It’s been so stressful wrapping everything.

“I mean it’s good, but Gorka is doing the (Strictly) Christmas special and then obviously it’s the final.

“So he’s been away last week and he’s away another two weeks – literally ‘til the end,” she added. “So, yeah, it’s weird prepping for Christmas on my tod.

Speaking about Christmas day this year, Gemma added: “I’m not doing any of that, he can sort that when he’s home. He can absolutely sort that out.”

Gorka is currently a part of the ensemble cast for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, after being eliminated from the competition in Week Three alongside partner Nikita Kanda.

The four pairs left to compete in the semi-finals are: Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin, and Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe.

However, none of the four pairs were left fighting for a space last weekend, as fifth couple Nigel Harman and Katya Jones were forced to pull out of the competition on medical grounds.

The pair were due to perform a Charleston to Step in Time from Mary Poppins for the musical-themed live quarter-finals, but the Casualty star’s injury put a spanner in the works.

A spokesperson for the BBC told Express.co.uk: “Unfortunately Nigel has sustained an injury which means he is unable to perform in tonight’s show and has had to withdraw from Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns this Satuday at 7.35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
