Adele has revealed some of her closest friends didn’t like Easy on Me when they first heard the record-breaking single.
The first track released from her new album 30 has already outsold the rest of the UK Top 10, but her pals were not impressed when she first played the track to them.
Speaking to Greg James on Radio 1s’ Breakfast Show, she admitted: “I sent a snippet of me singing it as I was writing it to three of my closest friends here. One didn't like it, the other one was like, ''Well yeah, maybe, keep trying though.”
Adele joked: “That was the perfect response for me.”

Despite her friend’s initial reaction, the ballad is sure to reach the top spot in the charts this week. Easy On Me clocked nearly 20 million streams worldwide in one day and Spotify tweeted that it had became the the most streamed song in a single day.
Adele explained the inspiration behind the song was her well documented divorce to ex-husband Simon Konecki.
She said: “The song was written in 2019 and I was quite shocked I got it out straight away after being away from the studio in five years.
"The song is about initiating a discussion or a massive bloody fight, which I have definitely started post my relationship with my son’s dad and other people.”
She added: “I am very much not confrontational but you can initiate something and be like ‘hang on a minute, go easy on me, bear with me while I try and find my feet in a situation, you know’.
But Easy On Me is not a bitter song about a break-up. She said: “There’s something that is hopeful about it as well as sad. There’s an element of hope in it, because I was at my wits end in 2019."
The Rolling in the Deep singer has dedicated 30 to her son Angelo and hopes the album will explain her split from his dad.
She told Vogue in a recent interview: "I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he's in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness."
Her friends may not have loved the new tune but her fans on Twitter were understandably in love with the new single. One user said: “Adele is gonna have me crying over a divorce I’ve never had #Adele30”
Another tweeted: “Adele has just given us other lyrics that we can all relate and sing along to. This is exactly why she has all of us on a leash ”
Fans will have to wait until Friday 19 November to hear the much-anticipated full album.
