FORGET a long flight to the Maldives – there are new overwater villas opening in the UK.

Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa in Devon has revealed their floating lodges which are opening in April 2022.

The new lodges are built over the private lake, with six to choose from.

Guests will be able to look out over the water and Devonshire countryside from their own private deck.

Even if the weather is bad, you can still enjoy the view with ceiling to floor glass windows overlooking the lake.

Inside the lodges are kitchens and living areas, with flat-screen TVs and dining spaces.

They sleep up to four people, with a double bed and sofa bed meaning both couples and families can stay there.

You can bring the pets too, as dogs are allowed free of charge.

Water activities including paddle boarding and kayaking will be available from the summer, with the new infinity swimming pool and spa opening in July.

If you fancy eating out, there is also the onsite restaurant and bar The Apple & Grape with gastro-pub meals and local ingredients and ales.

The lodges are also a short drive from Dartmoor National Park and the north coast of Cornwall.

Lakeshore Leisure Group boss Stephen Twiss told Devon Live: “Our brand-new floating lodges allow guests to experience the best of both worlds, with the tranquillity of a boat on the water, and the luxury of a traditional lodge.

"Our aim with these lodges was to provide guests with glorious views that they’ll never tire of, making them the ideal romantic getaway where couples can spend their time gazing through the giant windows, or sitting on their private decking right on the lake.

"Luxury was the priority with these lodges, and the closeness to the lake make them the ultimate location for a calm and relaxing stay.”

They currently have 10 per cent off in their New Year sale, meaning a two-night stay will set you back £630 – working out to £80 each a night.

If you still want a Maldives-style holiday without the price, you can stay at a resort in Greece which has the only overwater villas in Europe.
