BRITS could reduce winter energy and rental costs by 'emigrating' somewhere warmer this January.

We've rounded up some long-stay holidays around Europe, with prices starting from just £21pp a night.

According to a research briefing of the UK parliament, "typical bills under the January to March 2024 price cap will be almost 60 per cent higher than in winter 2022".

Meanwhile, a survey from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that "52 per cent of adults in Great Britain reported an increase in their cost of living".

So, those looking for a January escape to a sunnier destination should watch out for these deals.

1. Malta

Halfway between Sicily and the coast of Tunisia, you can find Malta.

With typical high temperatures in the mid-20C, the island country is fortunate to have a sunny environment all year round.

You will have time to explore the sandy beaches, cuisine, and rich history of the archipelago – even in January.

  • Book 21 nights at Canifor Hotel on a half-board basis – from £458pp (£21pp a night)

2. Benidorm, Spain

If you think of beautiful beaches, great bargains, and year-round sunshine, you'll think of Bendirom.

  • Book 21 nights at Harmony Bay Hotel on a half-board basis – from £559 half-board (£27pp a night)

4. The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve should be at the top of your list thanks to the miles of golden sandy beaches and warm temperatures.

Plus, there will be plenty to do as the Portuguese region hosts many events throughout the year, including Carnival in February and March or Nos Alive in the summer.

Winter time temperatures here can reach highs of 20 to 22 degrees.

  • Book 21 nights at Soldoiro Apartments on a half-board basis – from £333pp (£16pp a night)

5. Tunisia

  • Book 28 nights at TUI BLUE Oceana Suites on a half-board basis – from £876pp (£30pp a night)

We've also found some winter sun destinations where temperatures still hit 25C in December.
