In November 2016 she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.

In the early stages of her diagnosis, Rachael continued to present Radio 5 Live.

She then went on to co-host BBC podcast You Me and the Big C with Lauren Mahon and Deborah James.

The podcast quickly became popular for its discussion of cancer and the trio's self-deprecating humour to cope with their situation.

Two years after her diagnosis Rachael died at the age of 40 on September 5, 2018.

What has Steve said about Deborah James?

Steve has praised You Me and the Big C co-host Deborah as her bowel cancer research fundraiser reaches more than £4 million – just hours after she was made a Dame.

Deborah was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016.

She shared on social media that she has moved into hospice at home care on May 9, 2022, as her body ''just can't continue anymore.''

Steve tweeted: "Literally shaking. So so so proud of DAME @bowelbabe for everything she is and everything she’s achieved, not just in the last two days with the @BowelbabeF but in the last five years.

"No one has ever deserved recognition like this more. #DameDeborahJames."

In an appearance on BBC Breakfast on Friday, May 13, 2022, Steve commended Deborah, her fundraising efforts and how much people adored her.
