After a two year break due to the pandemic, The Apprentice is officially back on our screens.

Alan Sugar has in the driving seat since the very first series of the BBC show in 2005, when the prize was a £100,000 a year job at his company.

As the millionaire businessman gears up to meet another 16 hopefuls in the boardroom, viewers have grown curious about his life off-screen.

The 74-year-old, who boasts a whopping £1.15 billion net worth, is married to his long term partner Ann Simon and the pair share three grown-up children.

In 2018, the couple celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary, marking 50 years of marriage.

At the time, Lord Sugar posted a photograph of him with his spouse when they tied the knot in 1968, alongside a more recent image of them still happily married five decades later.

The mogul’s upload came as a huge shock to followers as the entrepreneur looks unrecognisable. Ann was just sixteen when they met, while Alan was 18.

When they met, Ann was working as a hairdresser and her parents weren't too impressed with her choice of boyfriend and thought she could do better.

"In her parents' mind I wasn't 'catch of the month'. It's the old thing of they'd rather have an accountant, a lawyer or a doctor," Alan has previously said.

Speaking about the moment he proposed, the businessman has previously shared a rather unromantic story.

Alan said: "It was more along the lines of, 'I suppose we should get married then?'"

"There was certainly no going down on one knee, with a rose, in a restaurant. In fact we were going over the Stratford flyover in the minivan at the time."

The couple married in April 1968 in Great Portland Street Synagogue and then spent their honeymoon in Majorca.

Ann has also previously admitted that her husband isn't one to make a grand gesture of love.

"Alan's definitely not the romantic type. Definitely not," she said in the BBC documentary The Real Alan Sugar.

"He wasn't the normal run of boys of that age, he was always a bit different," she added, explaining that manners weren't something in his wheelhouse.

"He was very straight-talking, I wasn't used to that type of thing but that's what I liked about him. Don't know why but I did!"

Alan and Ann have three children together, Simon, 52, Daniel, 50, and 47-year-old daughter Louise and the couple live in Chigwell, in Essex.

The couple is also fortunate to have seven grandchildren.
