As Cady Heron in Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan defined an era of 00s it girls and had millions of teenagers across the world wanting to conjure up an identical twin in order to enact chaos à la The Parent Trap.

But after time out of acting, it seems that one thing is official – Lindsay is officially back again.

Starring in a lead role in Netflix’s untitled “upcoming holiday rom-com, co-starring Chord Overstreet,” the actress will play an heiress who develops amnesia after having a skiing accident.

Before we see her back on our screens, here’s a look at where the Mean Girls star is now.

What is she doing now?

After leaving Hollywood, Lindsay jetted abroad and in 2019 her reality show Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club debuted on MTV, documenting her new venture as a nightclub owner in Mykonos. However, after one season, it was cancelled.

During an interview on Lights Out with David Spade last year, the 35 year old said that she’d been living in Dubai for six years, after previously revealing that she was in the process of designing her own island there.

Keeping busy during lockdown, at the beginning of this year, Lindsay released a jewellery collaboration with Lily Baker Jewels. She can also be found on Cameo.

From movies to music

Having launched onto our screens after an appearance on Sesame Street at just nine years old, Lindsay’s breakthrough came in the form of The Parent Trap as she played twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in the Disney remake.

A box office success, she then went onto star in Freaky Friday, another successful remake by Disney.

But it’s Mean Girls that has come to define her career. Playing new girl Cady Heron, Lindsay taught us to wear pink on Wednesdays, that there’s no shame in taking Halloween too seriously and that you should never trust a Mean Girl.

And as a product of the 00s, she also turned her hand to music, releasing her debut album in the same year as Mean Girls’ debut. More recently she dropped dance track Back to Me in April 2021.

Famous friends and fallouts

Being an it girl, Lindsay was frequently papped hanging out with other famous faces, including Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears.

But with any fame comes fallout, with the media reporting that Lindsay had a rift with fellow child actor Amanda Bynes.

Despite being friendly for a while, in 2010 Amanda allegedly called Lindsay a “b***h” with a friend saying that she “obsessively hated her”.

Come 2012 when Lindsay had served some short prison terms for driving offences, she tweeted: "Why did I get put in jail and a Nickelodeon star has had NO punishment so far?" after Amanda was arrested in similar conditions.

Why did she leave Hollywood?

Like many child stars, living life in the public eye led to issues with drugs and alcohol. By 2013 the actress had been to rehab several times and has been arrested for cocaine possession.

Following this Lindsay was arrested for driving recklessly and under the influence, spending 84 minutes in a California jail.

With these stories overshadowing her work, she had gained an unfavourable reputation among the Hollywood crowd, stating that she moved to Dubai to remove herself from being in the limelight.
