When it comes to an A-List glow, it’s no secret that there are a few tricks that go beyond a good skincare routine (though we’re big advocates of that too!) but this at-home laser means you can try celeb skincare yourself.

One beauty tool that’s been particularly buzz-worthy lately is the £1,999 Lyma Laser, a light therapy device that was used to treat A-Listers before big red-carpet events.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Paris Hilton and Tracee Ellis Ross are just a few of the brand’s celebrity fans, alongside Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian, who have been seen using the blue-light laser on their face.

Oh, and we tried, it, too.

Joanna Czech, a facialist to the stars who worked with the brand on pre-Oscars and pre-Met Gala celebrity facials explains: ‘I truly believe that good skin is based on 70% of your lifestyle and 30% of your skincare.

‘I like using The LYMA laser because it tackles all major skin concerns and helps my clients achieve their skin goals.

‘There are billions of cells in the dermis which degenerate over time and the LYMA Laser reverses this process by repairing the cells.

‘It reaches the deepest layers of the skin, including fat and muscle, which is why I recommend it for all my clients no matter their age.’

So how does it work, exactly? The Lyma Laser is the first ever skincare device to deliver 500mW of interrupted laser beam light at home – the amount used in laser clinics.

The tool uses pioneering engineering, where laser beam light is diffused 25,000 times by LYMA’s unique lens system.

Dr Dendy Engleman, a board-certified dermatologist comments: ‘The LYMA Laser technology absolutely blew my mind. It has revolutionised the entire industry. Anything that bothers you, from the forehead to the toes, LYMA can help with.’

This is backed up by Romy Soleimani, a celebrity make-up artist, who comments: ‘So many dermatologist lasers work by damaging the skin to create collagen but the LYMA Laser repairs skin by healing, so you feel like you’re treating your skin.

‘I’ve only had my LYMA Laser for 10 months and I take it on every single job with me because it’s so easy to travel with.’

What’s the Difference Between LED and Laser Light Therapy Treatment?

LED Light Therapy is a popular treatment choice for glowing skin and tackling fine lines and wrinkles, coming with a lower price point (typically around £200 and upwards). So what makes the LYMA Laser worth the investment?

Although LED is able to treat the epidermis, 95% of LED light bounces off the skin’s surface and only 5% is able to make it through that top layer of skin, while laser light is able to penetrate through to deeper layers.

Laser light suffers no such travel restrictions or ‘bounce back’ because it’s a straight-line, coherent light source that travels in a more linear way.

You would usually have to visit a clinic for a laser treatment like this, but the LYMA Laser is the only clinic-grade skincare laser to be FDA-cleared for home use – a big step in the beauty business.

LYMA Laser reviews

The reviews for this skincare magic wand are suitably glowing!

‘Just thought I would let you know that I have been using the LYMA laser religiously and what a difference it makes!’ wrote one happy shopper. ‘I am turning 50 on Monday and have people complimenting me on how good my skin is.’

Another said: ‘I am really loving the laser! I have been using it almost every day since I got it last year and I have definitely noticed improvement in my skin tone/texture, overall glowiness and reduction in hyperpigmentation. I will definitely continue to use it and am very happy that I purchased it!’

While a third added: ‘I’ve been using the LYMA Laser for about two months now. I am so pleased with the results I’m seeing on cystic acne and scarring! This is the only thing that has helped – almost eliminated this problem. I am so grateful.’

Our own writer tried the laser at home to see the results first-hand – this is what she had to say.

Metro’s Claire Eaton-Rutter tried the Lyma Laser at home.

‘I’m certainly not someone who has a self-care regime, although I would love to. I have a toddler who is allergic to sleep and so have existed on fumes and caffeine for the past three years. So I am willing to take as much help as I can get to look good with minimal effort – which, to me, means being able to do it on my sofa, not having to go to see a beauty therapist and fork out loads of money.

‘I knew what to expect after my call with a consultant, who had already advised me how to use it for the best results. But, in fairness, there wasn’t much to explain especially as I’d already researched the science behind it: you click the laser on and it is ready to go. There are no complicated dials or knobs for intensity. The beam just shines.

‘I got my face cleaned, gave myself a spritz with the brand’s mist, and then applied the Glide gel and got to work, spending 15 minutes on one side of my face before switching to the other. It was the strangest thing. Nothing happened.

‘It was like running a flashlight over my skin. There’s no noise and barely any heat. That was the weirdest thing, as there was no sensation, pain, or immediate result. It was all over and I didn’t really have much to show for it. I just had to trust in the process. Normal people would be cartwheeling that there was no pain, but I felt like I wanted something to happen.

‘In terms of my skin, I’ve kept the same skincare products from Drunk Elephant and Shiseido, so aside from the LYMA products I can see a glow and a brightness coming through. I’m confident that as I keep it up, it will become more apparent.’
