We’ve all been there… tripped up the stairs, seen our brollies blow inside out, or found ourselves sinking into the grass after choosing the wrong type of heel.
Royals are no exception – only their embarrassing moments are often caught on camera and shared with millions.
And they often seem to retrieve the situation with such poise.
We look back at some of the royal mishaps that might put a smile on your face..

Queen Elizabeth II
The late Queen rarely lost her composure, even in the most trying conditions.
She kept a firm grip on her umbrellas during rainstorms and her headgear always seemed to stay perfectly in place.
But there was one occasion at Sultan Qaboos’ home, Muscat Palace, in February 1979, when even Queen Elizabeth struggled to keep her hat on her head before it was blown right off.

Kate had a sinking feeling when when her four-inch stiletto got stuck in a grate.
The Princess, then the Duchess of Cambridge, had been attending the St Patrick’s Day parade in 2013 with husband William at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire.
The pair had been at the ceremony to present shamrocks to members of the Irish Guards.

Unfazed by the slight embarrassment, she grabbed the arm of her husband and pulled herself free, laughing off the blunder.
Queen Camilla
Umbrellas and strong winds don’t go together – and this can even catch the Royal Family out.

Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall, had her own brolly blunder while on a royal visit to Ward Barracks in Burford in 2013.
She lost her grip on the umbrella and it looked as though she almost lost it, but thanks to the help of her royal aides, they pulled her free from the plastic parasol.
Fortunately, Camilla was able to laugh of the embarrassing incident and carry on with royal tour.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, suffered a minor fashion faux pas when she was a working royal.
As Meghan and Prince Harry arrived at Fua’amotu Airport in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, a label was seen hanging down from her red bright red floral dress, with the price tag still on.

It hung down from the dress for at least five minutes as the Duke and Duchess were welcomed, before an aide eventually spotted it.

Back in 1989, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, also battled with strong winds as she was about to embark on a place at Heathrow airport.

Stepping out in a floral print dress and a large black sun hat, Fergie’s hat was blown away from her.
She managed to eventually catch it before it got too far away, and the couple headed on their way to Canada.
Diana, Princess of Wales
In 1991, Diana fell up a flight of plane stairs during a visit to Pakistan.
She had slipped while climbing the ladder but managed to grab the handrail and steady herself.
If that was not a bad start to the day enough, her flight was then delayed an hour because of a rainstorm.
The winds had also meant her skirt was being blown all over the place before she finally boarded the plane.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
Having to deal with the famous British weather, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, was caught on camera cowering from the rain.
While on her way to visit the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital at Stansted Airport in 2017, she was seen umbrella-less, forced to cover her face from the rain using her hand.

Princess Alexandra
Princess Alexandra is the cousin of Queen Elizabeth and suffered an unfortunate slip-up on her wedding night – live on television.
The Princess, who married Angus Ogilvy, slipped while walking down the stairs of their plane, after flying into Lossiemouth Naval air station.

Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark
It is not just British royals who have had clumsy setbacks while on tour.
Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, left her shoe behind when visiting the grave site of President John F Kennedy by the Washington Monument at Arlington National Cemetery in June 2010.
The Princess quickly realised her shoe was no longer on her foot and went back to get it.
The Dutch ambassador Friss Arne Petersen came to help her while she put it back on while her husband Crown Prince Frederik laughed.

Queen Sofia of Spain
Perhaps one of the most embarrassing royal blunders to date was when Queen Sofia of Spain fell up the stairs of the White House while greeting President Bill Clinton in 2000.
She famously stumbled up the stairs, with the President helping to catch her from falling.
Sofia had been arriving for a state dinner but quickly laughed off the accident, after all, we have all done it.

When Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s shoe fell off as she greeted the Home Guard in Copenhagen in 2017, she quickly laughed it off.
The monarch reached forward for the lost shoe while the guards offered their assistance.
But she was quite capable of getting it herself and carried on business as usual following the slip-up.

Horse blunders
Among the wardrobe malfunctions and the weather blunders, one of the most common royal accidents seem to happen while they are on a horse.
Princess Anne, an Olympic horse rider, was seen on a number of occasions falling off her horse, making a particularly spectacular fall at Towcester Racecourse in 1983.

Like mother, like daughter, Zara Tindall, also an Olympic horse rider, has also taken a tumble or two in her career to date.
One fall in 2010 saw Zara fall from her horse at The Water Complex at horse trials in Enschede, Holland.
She remained unhurt, largely due to her Point-2 air jacket which inflated on impact, but she was forced to stop racing for the day.
King Charles and Prince Harry, like father, like son, have similar had nosedives off their horses.
Charles fell headfirst off his horse during a polo match in Cowdray Park in 1992 whereas Harry fell off during the sixth Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup at Val de Vie Estate in Cape Town.
