THE SNOWMAN 50p is a little bit of winter and Christmas that you can carry in your pocket all year round – even if the weather is starting to finally perk up.

There are actually four different variations of The Snowman 50p. We explore how much they're worth.

Everybody's favourite Christmas movie is immortalized forever in the series of 50p coins, each featuring scenes from the iconic family film and its characters.

A commemorative The Snowman 50p coin was first released in November 2018 to celebrate 40 years since Raymond Briggs' Christmas novel was published.

The coin featured The Snowman flying through the sky above Brighton Pier alongside human pal James.

In November 2019, the second coin was released showing The Snowman on a snow-carpeted lawn with James in front of him and the forest in the background.

On its third reincarnation, the coin instead features The Snowman hugging James.

And a brand new coin was released last year, and it features a scene straight out the original storybook of James creating the snowman.

None of the four coins were released into circulation – you could only get your hands on them by buying an official Brilliant Uncirculated pack.

The coins could still be used as legal tender if they were to be separated from their sealed packs, so there's nothing to say one won't pop up in your change.

But it means there's no official mintage figures from the likes of experts like Change Checker to prove exactly how rare each coin is and just how many are out there.

You'll have to look to eBay then, to determine how much you could get a copy of your own.

The most recent Snowman 50p design has sold for as much as £25 on eBay, despite only being released a few months ago.

Meanwhile, a copy of the 2020 design sold for £22.50 on the online auction site in February.

One seller had the 2018 and 2019 versions too, and they managed to sell both for a combined £22.21 on eBay.

It can be worth taking the time to build up the set though, like one seller did as they managed to earn £41 from all four in one go on eBay.

How rare are other 50ps in my change?

If you spot a unique design on the 50ps in your change, you could find it's valuable, and could make a lot of money from it.

That being said, a coin is only worth what someone is willing to bid on it.

But designs with a low mintage can be more valuable to collectors as they become increasingly harder to get their hands on.

You can check in with experts like Coin Hunter, Change Checker, or The Royal Mint to see what your change is worth.

After that, try selling it on eBay – other listings on eBay will help you to see how much you could get too.

But beware of fakes – and keep in mind that a buyer could always pull out, which means the coin won't have sold for the price it says it has.
