Princess Kate baffles Wimbledon watchers during ball boy meet – as they ask if her handshake routine is ‘normal’

Kate Middleton left fans confused at Wimbledon this weekend as she greeted ball boys and girls at Wimbledon.

The Princess of Wales, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, headed onto centre court ahead of presenting new men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz with his trophy.

But eagle-eyed fans spotted a bizarre move for the future Queen.

As she headed to meet the line-up of ball boys, Her Royal Highness appeared to completely skip the first one only shaking hands with the second-in-line.

A clip of the interaction was posted to Twitter with one person questioning if it was normal.

However, some argued the Princess was simply saving time and it was the norm to not shake every hand.

‘Was it maybe she met him at the entrance and doesn’t have to greet him again?’ said one.

‘She may have shaken hands with him previously? Not everything happens on camera,’ added another.

Elsewhere, the Princess of Wales looked delighted for Wimbledon’s newest champion, Carlos Alcaraz as she handed him his winner’s trophy after a gripping final at SW19.

The Spaniard bowed in front of the Princess, who had matched her elegant £750 emerald Roland Mouret flock with a pair of similar coloured earrings for tournament’s climax.

She could be seen congratulating the tournament’s champion as she handed over the prize, before she stepped back and applauded the new number one.

Moments before handing over the prestigious trophy, Princess Catherine gave her commiserations to Alcaraz’s adversary, Novak Djokovic, with the Serbian bowing his head as he accepted the award.

Before she carried out her duties as the patron for the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Princess was greeted by a huge round of applause.

She was captured shaking the hands of the ball kids and chatting to them as they lined up to welcome her onto the court to present the trophies.

Her rapport with the youths on courtside was there for everybody to see, a number of them grinning as she politely made her way down the line, shaking each hand.

During the ceremony, the Princess also chose to shake the hands of a number of officials from the Club, which included Jerry Armstrong, the Championship’s referee, who has 50 years association with the tournament.

She chatted with with him briefly on the court as the crowd applauded.

The princess, 41, was joined by her children Prince George and Princess Charlotte and her husband, Prince William, on the final day of the tournament in SW19.

Alongside her stylish mother, Princess Charlotte was pictured donning a pair of pink sunglasses as she sat next to her brother.

Prince George could be seen in a regal navy suit as he sat next to his sister.

Both children were seen thoroughly engrossed in the day’s tennis, with the young Prince watching the action with his head in his hands at points.

The Royals were spotted waving to fans below as they walked across the bridge to leave the Club.

Princess Kate had already attended the tournament twice this season and was present to watch the Czech Republic’s Vondrousova win the Venus Rosewater Dish.
