Before settling down with Meghan Markle in 2018, Prince Harry was sometimes called a “playboy” prince. His love life was the subject of much press attention, and he seemed to have a string of dates and girlfriends.
Since then, some women from Harry’s past have spoken up about their relationship. One ex-girlfriend even recently said she feels “lucky” that their fling did not last long.
Who did Prince Harry date before marrying Meghan Markle?
Harry had two serious girlfriends in his 20s and 30s before meeting Meghan. From 2004 to 2010, he had an on-and-off relationship with Chelsy Davy, the daughter of a Zimbabwean businessman. From 2012 to 2014, Harry dated socialite/actor Cressida Bonas, whom he met via his cousin Princess Eugenie.
Additionally, throughout the years, Harry was also linked to women such as Natalie Pinkham, Astrid Harbord, Caroline Flack, and Ellie Goulding.
One of Prince Harry’s exes feels ‘lucky’ their relationship did not last long
One woman Harry went out with was model Florence St George (who was formerly known as Florence Brudenell-Bruce before her marriage). The two of them dated briefly in 2011. According to People, they broke up because Harry wanted to focus more on his military training.
St George recently opened up about her relationship with Harry with Stella Magazine, especially when it comes to how much press attention she got.
“My privacy ended abruptly, and the scrutiny began,” she explained (via The Sunday Telegraph). “A new story would appear almost every day in the press, my school friends were interrogated and there were photographers outside my front door.”
St George added, “I take my hat off to those people who can cope with that lifestyle, but I knew I couldn’t. Although it was sad at the time, I feel lucky that the relationship was short lived.”
St George went on to marry banker Henry St George in 2013. The couple has a daughter together.
Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas also broke up with Prince Harry because of press attention
Being a famous royal, it seems many of Harry’s exes had a difficult time with the media.
In 2016, Davy said (via Daily Mail), “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope … I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”
Meanwhile, Bonas has not openly discussed her breakup with Harry, but biographer Robert Lacey alleged she ended things after seeing how much Kate Middleton went through as a royal wife.
“In 2014, she was said to have been ‘completely spooked’ after watching the TV coverage of William and Kate touring New Zealand with baby George in tow,” Lacey said, according to the Daily Star. “That was not the way she would want to enjoy her eight-month-old son, she regretfully explained to Harry.”
