Kitchen renovations are expensive – with the average one coming in around £8,000.
But one savvy mum decided to give her kitchen a new lease of life for considerably less.
Mum-of-three Dorota Kuzmicka used a series of money-saving tricks to revamp her run-down kitchen for less than £100.
The 34-year-old achieved this by buying things second-hand and purchasing news bits on a budget.
To start, Dorota cleaned the entire kitchen, then took the doors off the cabinets and painted them with white paint.
After, she degreased the countertops and tiles and glued the self-adhesive veneer on them.
‘There was no door on the island, so we made it with a piece of a pallet. We used brick wallpaper on the other side,’ the insurance agent tells DIY on a Budget UK.
‘I used marble self-adhesive wallpaper from The Range for £6 a roll, AliExpress handles that cost £1, self-adhesive geometric wallpaper for the tiles at £10 a roll, and brick wallpaper from ebay for £8.’
She then made the chandelier from an old ladder and painted the cabinets and tiles with Johnstone’s wood and metal paint, which cost her £9.
In total, the DIY project took her just a day to complete. Not to mention she saved a huge amount by doing it all herself.
Dorota adds: ‘It would have cost well over £1,000 to do professionally, but we did it for under £100.
‘It feels perfect to have saved so much money and that we have created a wonderful and safe place for our family on a budget.’
Because Dorota rents her property, she needed to get consent from the landlord – but paid for everything herself.
She adds: ‘When we move out someday, all the walls will be painted magnolia just like they were at the beginning.
‘It doesn’t matter that you rent a house, it is important what kind of place you create for your family.’
