One Direction may have stolen the hearts of teens across the world thanks to their catchy pop songs, cheeky personalities and undeniable chemistry, but London’s Madame Tussauds has revealed that the attraction will be retiring the boyband’s waxworks.
Since arriving at Madame Tussauds in 2013, the figures of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have proven popular even asthe band pursue successful careers as solo artists.
But six years after the X Factor runners-up went on an indefinite hiatus in January 2016, their waxworks are officially being archived for safekeeping.
And given that the What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers amassed fans in every corner of the globe, it’s no surprise that die-hard ‘Directioners’ are begging the London attraction to let them get their hands on the wax replicas.
From Harry Styles’ hair to Louis Tomlinson’s lips, fans from as far afield as New Zealand and Australia have been inquiring about owning a part of the band’s history.
Many have even offered to pay delivery costs to have the One Direction boys moved to their bedroom, too.
Speaking of the requests, Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London said: “Six years on from going their separate ways, the number of requests we’ve received from One Direction fans offering to take ownership of all, or part of, our One Direction figures now they’ve been retired shows what an impact they’ve made on their fans.
“One superfan even said they’d be willing to hire a private jet from Sydney to fly the figures out to them!"
He added: “One Direction’s figures have been an important part of Madame Tussauds London for nine years and whilst we know some fans will be sad to no longer be able to visit the band’s figures, the time has come to bid them a fond farewell.”
After announcing the news that the waxworks were being retired, fans were quick to express their devastation on social media.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “just found out that one direction are no longer in madame tussauds and I am devastated. literally in mourning over the fact I’ll never get to have a photo with the fake boys.”
