In January, Donald Trump became the first president to be impeached twice, and on February 13, 2021, he was once again acquitted by the U.S. Senate, with 57 Senators voting to convict and 43 voting to acquit (via ABC News).

Now, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina — one of Trump’s most loyal supporters in Congress — has threatened to file impeachment articles against Vice President Kamala Harris if Republicans take back the House in 2022, as reported by The Independent.

Graham made the threat during an interview with Fox News, in which he stated that Trump’s impeachment — the second of which was for inciting the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol (via CNN) — was unconstitutional and “opened Pandora’s Box” to future presidents (via Newsweek). “If you use this model, I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if the Republicans take over the House,” he stated.

What really happened between Kamala Harris and Black Lives Matter protesters

So what did Kamala Harris do, according to Lindsey Graham, that rises to the level of impeachment? Graham is alleging that Harris bailed out Black Lives Matter protesters from jail last summer, one of whom, Graham claims, went on to “[break] somebody’s head open” after being released.

As noted by The Independent, there is no evidence that Harris herself bailed out any Black Lives Matter protesters, as Graham alleges, let alone one who went on to physically harm someone.

On June 1, 2020, before she was named as Biden’s running mate, Harris tweeted a link to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that was helping bail out people arrested for protesting George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minnesota police officers (via Newsweek). According to The Minnesota Freedom Fund’s website, their mission is “to pay criminal bail and immigration bonds for those who cannot afford to, as we seek to end discriminatory, intimidating, and oppressive money bail.”

In July, the organization paid bail for a man who went on to be charged with third-degree assault a month later (via The Independent). However, his initial arrest was never linked to the Black Lives Matter protests or Vice President Harris.
