On Monday, rapper and hip hop mogul Dr. Dre, 55, reportedly suffered a brain aneurysm and was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, though it was soon reported that he was in “stable and lucid condition.”

Last night, his team released a statement saying, “Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

A near-billionaire, Dre launched Beats Electronics in 2008 alongside longtime collaborator Jimmy Iovine. The company managed to capture 20 percent market share of the headphones industry by 2012. Beats Electronics was sold to Apple for $3 billion in 2014. The founder of Death Row Records and N.W.A also produced the 2015 N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton.

As a rapper, Dre’s hits include “Let Me Ride,” “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” “and “Forgot About Dre,” released between 1992 and 2001. He has also played a key role in Eminem’s career, recently appearing on the 2020 album Music To Be Murdered By – Side B. As a producer, he has collaborated with artists such as Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, among others.

In May 2013, Dre and Iovine donated a $70 million endowment to the University of Southern California to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. The fund hoped “to shape the future by nurturing the talents, passions, leadership and risk-taking of uniquely qualified students who are motivated to explore and create new art forms, technologies, and business models.” The first class of the Academy began in September 2014.

Dre has won numerous awards over the years, including six Grammys. He is currently in divorce proceedings from his wife Nicole Young after 24 years of marriage. A hearing on spousal support had been scheduled for Wednesday.
