Ryder (Lukas Radovich) has been living in the caravan park since deciding he can no longer cope with Roo (Georgie Parker) and Alf’s (Ray Meagher) constant fighting. However, after some time apart, Alf has decided to step up and apologise to his grandson for how he handled the situation with Theo (Matt Evans). Realising that he can’t hold a grudge forever, Ryder accepts the apology and decides to move back into the family home.

Peace is restored, and Ryder has further good news when he triumphantly announces that he’s graduated his TAFE course. Roo and Alf are happy for him, but the moment is cast aside when devastating news comes in – there’s been a death in the Bay.

Alf is left thinking about his distance from Martha (Belinda Giblin) in the wake of the news, and he proposes a family lunch to lift everyone’s spirits and celebrate Ryder’s graduation. However, Ryder struggles to get on board with the atmosphere in the house and walks out of the meal, saying he’s ashamed to be celebrating while others are mourning.

The death has left Ryder thinking about his own recent grief, when he lost his father not long after meeting him for the first time. He and Theo make a plan to create one last video so they can try and support those who are grieving – using their filmmaking skills for good this time.

At Salt, Ryder gets into a conversation with his new colleague Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) about how to deal with grief. Now that he’s thinking about his father’s death, he doesn’t know how to handle it. Felicity shares that her own father passed away, and Ryder asks her if the pain ever goes away. Felicity is honest and says it never fades, but your acceptance gets stronger. Ryder feels like someone finally understands him…
