Royal Horticultural Society offer advice on Peace Lily plants
Most varieties of peace lilies are known for producing white or cream-coloured flowers.
If a peace lily is healthy and has matured enough, it will likely make flowers.
However, some varieties of peace lilies may be more prone to flowering than others.
But according to one gardener, there could be a way to encourage these houseplants to “grow flowers faster”.
Taking to the Gardening UK Facebook page, one woman claimed that after giving her peace lily a kitchen scrap item, she noticed a flower starting to emerge.

Maria Baligasa wrote: “Good morning. Super excited with my peace lily. After putting banana peels, they started to grow flowers faster. It is working so well!”
The houseplant enthusiast shared a before picture of the peace lily that hadn’t flowered and an after photo that captures a stunning white flower growing from the indoor plant.
A possible reason as to why this hack can be effective is because the banana peels are providing the peace lily with nutrients so it can bloom.
According to the experts at Lawn, potassium is a “vital nutrient for peace lilies” that “helps with flower production”.

They claimed that if a peace lily is lacking in potassium, it’s “unlikely to produce flowers”.
The pros noted that peace lily owners can remedy this by using a “potassium-rich fertiliser” or “adding some banana peels or eggshells” to the soil to enrich it.
Express.co.uk found bananas to retail the cheapest at Tesco as you can pick up a pack of six for 75p. This works out as 13p per banana.
Aside from providing the houseplant with the correct nutrients, there are also other conditions peace lily owners need to do to ensure their plant flowers.
Peace lilies prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, while too little light can inhibit blooming.
Place peace lilies near a north or east-facing window where they can receive filtered light. If natural light is limited, consider using a grow light to supplement.
Peace lily owners also need to consider pruning and cleaning their houseplants. Removing yellowed or dead leaves can encourage new growth and blooming.
Pruning your peace lily also helps redirect energy to the production of flowers.
Regularly clean the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
