Weeds are unsightly plants that can appear in cracks in concrete, between paving stones and on driveways. Weeds can be easily dug out but this can be time-consuming and difficult for those who find it difficult to get on their hands and knees.

Luckily, fans of gardening and lifestyle pro Mrs Hinch have shared their handy hacks for removing weeds from paving and driveways.

Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, is a cleaning enthusiast with more than 4.5 million followers on Instagram.

Recently, fans of hers have taken to social media to share their own advice for common cleaning, gardening and household queries.

On one such group, Facebook user Colette Hicks asked: “What’s the best thing to do to keep weeds from coming back through paving on a driveway? Thanks.”

Colette’s post was inundated with a plethora of comments but the most popular response was to use salt either with white vinegar, bleach, water or washing up liquid.

Caroline Clair Lionel commented: “Brush salt in every six months – they won’t come back.”

Steph Healy replied: “Bag of dishwasher salt dissolved in hot water and brushed in twice a year. Nothing will grow. Avoid run off onto grass or soil.”

Janice Suleyman wrote underneath the Facebook post: “White vinegar and salt.” Other Facebook users agreed with Janice and suggested the same method.

Lynn Bentham suggested using “white vinegar and salt” while Joanne Grainger said “white vinegar, salt”.

Jo Rogers slightly altered the homemade weedkiller recipe by adding washing up liquid. She added: “I did white vinegar, salt and washing up liquid. It obliterated them in hours!”

Gillian Bellard said “cooking salt is better”. Steffan Cookson suggested putting “salt in water” to get rid of the weeds.

Most homes will have salt at the back of the cupboard but for those who don’t, it can be purchased in most local supermarkets.

Homeowners can buy 750g of table salt from Waitrose & Partners for just 55p.

Cook With M&S Table Salt is available for just 35p from Ocado. Sainsbury’s sells 750g of Table Salt for 55p and 1.5kg for £1.60.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans for ousting weeds included using weed killers, bleach and water, boiling water and a weed burner.
