Watering houseplants in the winter can be a tricky task, with many plants needing minimal care. During winter, most houseplants’ growth will slow down considerably. If a plant’s growth slows down, it’s best to reduce their watering until the spring.
Plants that are resting also don’t need to be fed during the winter.
Hollie Newton, Chief Creative Officer for Sproutl.com has shared a handy “£1.50” plant watering for winter.
For those who are unsure how much or how often they should be watering certain houseplants in the winter, this could be the perfect hack.
Hollie said houseplants can be “tricky” in the winter.

She explained: “Houseplants are tricky because in theory, most of them are down to one water per week.
“But equally, mine are at the most angry now and I think it’s the heating.
“So, I have invested in a £1.50 spritzer bottle and they are so much happier.”
The bestselling author of How to Grow: A Guide for Gardeners who Can’t Garden Yet exclusively told Express.co.uk that many houseplants don’t need “as much” water at this time of year.

She added: “Some of mine don’t need any water, but they do like a little light spritz of the leaves.
“It seems to keep them much happier.”
How often a houseplant needs water will depend on the size of the pot, the soil, light conditions, humidity and how warm the home is.
Another tip for watering houseplants at this time of year is using tepid water.

Ice cold water can shock the plant’s roots.
Plants love humidity and this is something they often lose in the winter months.
Central heating can actually see a home’s humidity level drop to 10 to 20 percent over winter when plants prefer around 50 percent.
A humidifier is a great way to boost the humidity for plants.
Another hack for increasing humidity is to put plants on or near a tray of water.
Houseplant owners can put stones on a tray to raise the plant above the water of the tray.
The pot should be put on top of the stones in the water filled tray.
Misting them regularly with a spray bottle will also help increase humidity.
