Christmas is a time for celebration and enjoying good food – whether it’s a traditional roast or something a tad fancier.

Many Britons are looking to make one last winter getaway before the turn of the year, and food-lovers should consider these destinations as a potential gastronomical winter trip

The experts at Titan Travel have crunched the numbers, analysed restaurant variety, Michelin-star ratings and Tripadvisor cuisine data to determine which city is the perfect festive escape for foodies.

Also taking into account the number of child-friendly, vegetarian, vegan, and fine-dining restaurants per km2, each city has been given a foodie score out of 10.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the best city for food this Christmas is Paris, France. The romantic city has had a long-lasting reputation as one of the finest food capitals in the world and absolutely outshone other cities for its number of fine-dining eateries (6.75 per km2) and Michelin-star establishments (4.65 per km2).

Winter is the perfect time for food-lovers to take the short trip over the Channel, with Saint-Germain-des-Prés hosting a famous Christmas Market, featuring an array of artisanal macarons and marrons glacés.

Vegetarians will have plenty of eateries to choose from in Paris, with the French capital having more vegetarian restaurants than any other city featured in the study (37.47 per km2).

The overall ‘foodie score’ awarded to Paris is 9.93/10.

Barcelona is the second best city for foodies to visit this winter, with a trip to Barcelona Christmas Market the best way to try all of the delicious options the city has to offer.

The Spanish city scores highly for its number of restaurants catering to children (37.40 per km2), as well as having a surprisingly large number of vegan restaurants (16.11 per km2) considering the large number of traditional Catalan dishes that contain meats and cheeses.

Barcelona’s ‘foodie score’ is 9.64/10.

You’ll have to go much further afield to experience the third best city for food-lovers this winter. Miami, located in sunny Florida, ranked consistently well across all of the categories, particularly impressive for the number of child-friendly restaurants (13.46 per km2) and vegetarian restaurants (9.14 per km2).

For an alternative vibe this Christmas, stroll, drive or sail your way around the eccentric Christmas lights on display.

Miami scored 9.00/10 on the ‘foodie score’.
