Greggs fans will benefit from a brand new store in London which opened its doors to customers today, Friday, November 17.

The British bakery giant has more than 2,400 stores across the UK which sell their trademark goods including sausage rolls, steak bakes and Yum-Yum’s, among other things.

Since it was established in 1939 in Tyneside, England, the fast-food chain has expanded across all areas of the country.

A Greggs spokesperson said: Earlier this year we set out to open 150 net new shops; we have today opened a brand new shop in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush and are planning to open several more shops across the UK by the end of the year.”

Its latest branch opening marks a poignant addition to one of the capital city’s busiest shopping centres just one year after its enormous Leicester Square site made its debut.

Fans of the beloved bakery may know that they’re never too far from a branch, with three now located in the Shepherd’s Bush Westfield area.

These include the Uxbridge Road and Shepherd’s Bush Tube Station sites – both of which are “open late” until 9pm.

The newest addition can be found in the shopping centre so visitors can nip in for sweet or savoury baked goods while browsing other stores.

While it’s good news for Britons in London, there are plenty more Greggs sites set to open before Christmas elsewhere in the country.

The bakery chain anticipates the total net shop openings for the year to come in between 135 and 145, as stated in its third quarter earnings published on October 3, 2023.

If they go ahead, it will mark “a record year for the absolute number of new shops opened” for the company.

As well as expanding its portfolio of bakeries, Greggs plans to extend opening hours until 9pm across the board of existing branches.

Earlier this year it applied to make its new Leicester Square flagship site a 24-hour operation, though Westminster Council rejected it over concerns that the site would become “a magnet for antisocial behaviour”.

They did, however, win the right for the location to stay open until midnight on some days and 2am on others.

A Greggs spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Earlier this year we set out to open 150 net new shops; we have today opened a brand new shop in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush and are planning to open several more shops across the UK by the end of the year.”
