Solo dining? You should get to know her.
While many would never set foot in a restaurant alone, enjoying a meal sans company can be rewarding, if not peaceful.
After rough days, I often take myself out for pizza. It’s affirming to know you can do it, but also simply offers some breathing space in which to decompress.
Now there’s no need for eating alone to be a sad or squalid affair – especially as Michelin has shared their top picks for dining solo in London.
The food industry authority says Wild by Tart in Belgravia is the top place to go, which serves pasta and veggie flatbreads.
There’s counter seating, which might make eating out alone feel a bit more accessible than having a whole table to yourself.
Another place to go is the Pig and Butcher, a pub in Islington with a ‘countryside’ feel according to Michelin. It’s a lively atmosphere that may even find you chatting to new people.

Or, try Mayfair’s Lucky Cat, Gordon Ramsay’s Asian-inspired restaurant. It is expensive, so it’s a treat and ideal for taking yourself out on a date.
If it’s your first time dining solo, be sure to check the restaurant’s policy, as some establishments will charge one person for two meals (the cheek!). But find the right venue, and you’ll want to go back time and time again.
As per the Michelin’s guide: ‘When dining solo, a touch of people-watching can often help things along. Overlooking Grosvenor Square, Lucky Cat is just what you need, with a touch of glitz and glamour thrown in for good measure.’
We’ll take a window seat.
