Morrisons has today announced a brand new range of food items, with a focus on quality ingredients, added protein and lower levels of fat, salt and sugar. The news comes after supermarkets around the country are focusing on tackling the obesity crisis in the UK.
With lockdown easing and many heading back to the office, ready meals are a great option to save on time.
However, with ready meals often comes a lot of saturated fat, sugar and salt, all of which can contribute to obesity.
The NHS said that obesity is a common problem in the UK, with an estimated one in every four adults affected.
To help tackle this, Morrisons has launched its brand new range of ready meals in its biggest product revamp.
Customers can pick up takeaway options like beef pepper masala as well as a southern fried meal box, with veggie and vegan options available too.
For those looking to add some luxury into their ready meals, Morrisons The Best meals offer indulgence with quality ingredients.
They are also priced affordably for shoppers too.
New recipes including lasagnas, a beef ragu, cottage pies as well as paella, bucatini and moussaka.

As well as the flavour makeover, development chefs at Morrisons have also stripped 114 million calories, 13 tonnes of fat, six tonnes of saturated fat, one tonne of sugar, and three tonnes of salt from its dishes to help Britons make healthier choices.
Sarah Newton, Senior Product Development Manager at Morrisons, said: “As a nation, we’ve had more time in the kitchen over the past few months than we could have possibly imagined.
“Now that customers’ lives are getting busier, we want to make preparing delicious dinners as easy as possible.
“We’re also pleased to be offering even better taste, but with lower fat and sugar with these new ready meals.”
The new food products are available to pick up in stores and online now.
The healthier ready meals come after it was last year announced that supermarkets will have to adhere to new store layouts in order to tackle obesity under the new Government legislation.
The new rules will see some of the nation’s most popular offers like ‘buy one get one’ on certain items banned.
Other offers like ‘3 for 2’ will also be banned in stores to help support the UK make healthier choices.
Promotions on unhealthy foods in places like checkouts and store entrances will also be stopped.
According to the Government, soft drinks displayed at the end of an aisle have been shown to increase sales by over 50 percent.
The legislation is said to come into force from April 2022.
Tesco has already begun offering its customers healthier products in its four-year plan of reformulation to improve the health profile of products.
Customers will also have access to healthier ready meals like Morrisons, with the retailer planning to increase the percentage of ready meals that contain at least one of the recommended five a day to 66 percent within the next four years.
Tesco Group CEO Ken Murphy said: “Customers are telling us they want to eat a more healthy, sustainable diet, but without having to stretch the weekly shopping budget.
“By making even very small changes to the items they put in their basket week in week out, we can help them make that change.
“We’ve worked hard to help our customers eat healthily and we’re proud of our track record, and it’s clear we can do more.
“Today we are sharing our stretching new ambitions on health, and committing to reporting our progress against them.”
Through its reformulating plans, Tesco will remove billions of calories and thousands of tonnes of salt, fat and sugar from products, without affecting the taste.
Since 2018, Tesco has already removed more than 50 billion calories of its products such as ready meals, biscuits, pies and cakes.
Plant-based options will also be more affordable for customers as they can be extremely expensive in supermarkets.
