Costa Coffee unveiled a new offer on Monday, April 12, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The offer was made available on Tuesday and ends on Thursday, April 15.

Costa Coffee treated fans to a huge deal this week, offering all its drinks for only 50p.

Customers can buy up to five drinks for 50p each, with everything from Costa’s Toffee Spiced Latte to its oat milk Flat White included in the offer.

All customers need to do is download the Costa Coffee Club app and scan the app when they purchase a drink.

Coffee lovers can now visit Costa Coffee restaurants or order a drink via Drive-Thru or using Costa’s click and collect service.

However, when the offer was launched yesterday, customers were left disappointed and angry when the app crashed as early as 7am.

The app experienced technical difficulties due to it being in high demand.

Customers expressed their rage on Twitter, with some claiming that Costa had “conned” them.

One Twitter user wrote: “Anyone else feel conned by Costa? App crashing. I’ve taken a screenshot of the QR Code though, so I’ll queue as long as I need for a 50p drink.”

Another angry customer said: “How you meant to get a #costa hot drink for 50p when the app doesn’t even work??”

“The app, which doesn’t work at the best of times, is simply not working. Can’t log in, and if we manage to get in, when selecting a store the app just crashes. Can I use my Costa Coffee Club card, or do I have to use the app?” another customer moaned.

One person wrote: “So, Costa, you have a 50p hot drinks deal that can only be done through your app. However, your app has crashed, I’ve had to reinstall it and now does not recognise any of my details.”

Meanwhile, another customer said: “Costa making £££‘s when surely if they know the whole app crashed they could have honoured the 50p offer. Makes it worse that it’s everybody rather than an odd one.”

However, some customers were luckier than others, managing to eventually get their hands on a 50p drink.

One customer posted a photo of their beverage on Twitter with the caption: “50p for a hot drink at Costas the next few days if you have a Costa Card. Medium Hot Chocolate with Cream and Marshmallows… Oh go on then hehe.”

One Costa fan said: “50p #costa. Get in!”

Another person wrote: “Least I got my coffee for 50p thanks #costa.”

Costa Coffee issued a statement after realising that its app was down yesterday.

It said: “We’re experiencing some technical issues with our Costa Coffee app and are working hard to resolve it.

“Customers are still able to redeem our ‘any hot drink for 50p’ offer by showing their Costa Coffee Club app at the till point of any participating store.

“We’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Costa’s offer is available for all registered app users until tomorrow, April 15.
