YOU NEVER notice the temperature of your phone until it gives you the 'too hot' warning in summer.

But an optical illusion has left people baffled as it changes the temperature – without it actually doing anything.

The video uploaded by @es_sports123 on TikTok has been viewed by over 18million people.

Shocking when you consider it's literally an image of an air conditioning unit with the noise attached.

To give it a go, make sure you watch the video on your phone with the volume turned up.

At first glance, there's nothing special about the video, but as you continue to watch it your phone will somehow seem to get colder.

It's as if there is actually an air conditioner pushing out cold air through your device.

Tens of thousands of people were left blown away by the video and couldn't believe what they were feeling and called it a 'placebo effect'.

One wrote: "THE PLACEBO EFFECT IS WORKING REAL STRONG RN."

Another person commented: "I feel air on my hand."

"The placebo effect makes me nervous," penned a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "HELP IT ACTUALLY WORKS MY PHONE WAS STARTING TO GET COLD."

"My hands feel a lot colder," claimed a fifth.

This video isn't a placebo as Catherine Hallissey, a chartered psychologist, explained to the Mirror: "The placebo effect is traditionally used to describe the phenomenon where a person's mental or physical health appears to improve after taking a placebo treatment.

"Therefore, I would not define this as an example of the placebo effect; rather it is an example of the power of suggestion combined with sensory input designed to simulate the real thing."

She continued: "The placebo is a well-studied medical phenomenon, not to be confused with an experience like this."
