As part of her final round of royal engagements in March 2020, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex visited the Robert Clack Upper School in Dagenham ahead of International Women’s Day. Meghan spoke to students wearing a subtle gold necklace layered with symbolism.
Meghan’s necklace for the outing was by Edge of Ember, an ethical jewellery brand with a focus on the planet and community.
The ‘Kismet Charm Necklace’ Meghan wore retails for £125 and it is 18-karat gold plated.
The pendant features the number ‘7’ and four-leaf clover motifs, two symbols known for their association with good luck.
Sarah McCann, trends expert at luxury diamond jewellery company Diamonds Factory, said: “Meghan Markle was spotted wearing the ‘Edge of Ember Kismet’ necklace with a four-leaf clover and the number ‘7’ numerous times, including a surprise visit to a school in East London and the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit.
“This stunning pendant is crafted from 18K gold and encrusted with diamonds to serve as one of her most beloved good luck pieces.
“The four-leaf clover is a well-known good luck emblem, and the number 7 is labelled ‘the world’s favourite number,’ making this piece an unmistakable good luck charm belonging to the Duchess.”
The Edge of Ember notes its famous royal fan in the necklace’s product description online.
It reads: “Inspired by vintage coins found in Asia, these modern-day talismans carry icons of good fortune.

“The four-leaf clover, a symbol of the unique and extraordinary.
“The Kismet necklace pairs this with the lucky number 7, so you can wear this personalised good luck charm close to your heart.
“Spotted on Meghan Markle, so you know you’re in good company.”
Meghan has worn other items from the brand before, including gold stud Wave earrings earlier that same month.
She also wore the brand’s Visionary Charm Necklace on a zoom call for a Smart Works initiative in April 2020.
Meghan accessorised her outfit on the occasion in March 2020 with a ME+EM Cream Belted Fringe Boucle Jacket.
She paired this with a white T-shirt and a smart pair of black ankle-length trousers.
On her feet, Meghan wore a pair of Jennifer Chamandi two-tone leather pumps with strap detailing.
The Edge of Ember necklace is one of many jewels Meghan turns to that holds sentimental value.
She also owns a pair of constellation necklaces which she wore in her 40×40 video for Archewell last year.
The constellations necklaces reflected the star signs of Meghan’s two children with Prince Harry and are from LA-based jewellery designer, Logan Hollowell.
She wore a Taurus necklace for Archie and a Gemini necklace for her daughter Lilibet, who was a newborn at the time.
Meghan has also worn necklaces with ‘H’ and ‘M’ initials on them in tribute to her beloved husband Harry.
