BEFORE having kids, all we really knew about pregnancy was that you'll probably feel a bit sick in the beginning and you might get swollen ankles at some point. Right?

Well, we couldn't have been more wrong – as it's only when you experience it for yourself that you realise some of the weird and wonderful changes your body goes through in those nine months.

One person who knows a little something about this is mum-to-be Alana.

Earlier this year, the expectant mum shared a viral TikTok video documenting how much the size of her bump fluctuates during the day.

She explained: "So I'm halfway through my pregnancy.

"Let's see my morning bump vs evening baby bump."

I’m pregnant & my husband said he hopes our baby looks ‘nothing like me’

At 10am that morning, Alana's neat little 20-week bump was hardly noticeable at all as she posed for the clip in her bedroom mirror.

But 14 hours later, it had doubled in size and looked as though Alana was nearing the end of her pregnancy.

The mum captioned the clip: "Looks like I’ve skipped a whole trimester in a single day."

Speaking to Romper, childbirth expert Jada Shapiro says there are several reasons why the size of your baby bump can fluctuate throughout the day – such as bloating or your little one changing position.

She said: "Overnight rest allows the stomach muscles to rejuvenate and do more of the work to hold the uterus in and up which is why your bump may seem smaller earlier in the day."

In the comments of her video, Alana added: "Anyone else not realise this was even a thing before they got pregnant??

"I just assumed your bump stayed the same size for the day!"

One viewer replied: "I'm currently 20 weeks and sometimes one side of my bump sticks out more than the other, he seems to like the right side of my belly."
