THE WEATHER has taken a serious turn for the worst recently and many of us are feeling the chill.

With energy prices going up plenty of people are looking for ways to keep their houses warm without putting the heating on.

And one DIY mum, Shauna, has revealed an easy £12 hack to add another layer of insulation to your winters to keep the cold out.

In a TikTok video, @homediydiary, revealed the product she used to help keep the cold out.

And it's perfect for older houses with single-glazed windows.

Shauna said: "If you have poorly insulated windows I'm going to show you a really cheap way to add secondary glazing to them and retain heat."

The savvy mum used insulation window film which you can buy on Amazon for £12 and showed how to apply the product correctly.

The first thing you want to do is give your window a clean, Shauna uses Windolene and a dry cloth to do so and white spirit to clean the window frame.

She added: "This is really important because we're going to be using some double-sided sticky tape and we need it to stick really well."

Next, she applies the double-sided tape along the window frame and peels off the backing.

Shauna then cuts the film roughly to the size of her window leaving some excess material and sticks it to the tape working from top to bottom.

The DIY mum added you should pull the film as tightly as possible and go over it with a hair dryer to heat the film and remove any wrinkles.

"Once finished, the film is going to be completely see-through and it acts as a secondary glazing to insulate your windows," she added.

The video has since gone viral with over a million views and people quickly took to the comments to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "I use these every year. definitely keeps some of the draught out. easy to use as well."
